About the Role
Childrenswear Designer
Manchester
Encore Recruitment is delighted to present an exciting opportunity for a talented and creative Childrenswear Designer to join a reputable company in the heart of Manchester. Due to continued growth, we are looking for a self-motivated proactive individual with knowledge in sleepwear product and graphic design to work alongside a senior sleepwear designer. You will work collaboratively with our UK retail buyers and China merchandising team to deliver a seamless product development process to key customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trend and regular design /retail research.
- Designing innovative, functional, attractive, and commercial products.
- Fully engaged in the complete design process, from designing concepts, including working on briefs.
- Hold a knowledge of fabric, construction applicable to knit, woven fabrications.
- Make sure collections meet partner brand guidelines in line with internal critical paths.
- Working closely with China development team to make sure product specifications are adhered to and products are delivered within costs.
- Attending regular meetings regarding designs, and a strong understanding of the current high street, trends and the ability to look forward and anticipate new trends.
- Design seasonal capsule collections along with key shapes, colour palettes and fabric direction, with a strong commercial handwriting.
- Researching customer demographic and being proactive to try and gain new and additional business.
- Occasional overseas research and factory visits.
- Help identify key opportunities and the latest trends on product.
- Supporting customers deadlines and requests when needed.
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 3-5 years' experience as a Designer in sleepwear/ fashion retail business.
- Strong Adobe (particularly Illustrator) and CAD skills.
- The ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and appropriately with colleagues and buyers at all levels.
- Have a strong eye for trends, colour and good attention to detail.
- A relevant Fashion/Textile Design degree.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Self-motivation & enthusiasm, able to work towards tight deadlines.
- A strong understanding of the current high street, trends and the ability to look forward and anticipate new trends.
- Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong on computer programs including Adobe and Illustrator.
- Willingness to travel abroad.
- Good communication skills and a confident presenter.
- A hands-on can-do attitude, someone who is innovative, who can inspire others.
- Creative and enthusiastic.

About you:
We are looking for someone who can work as part of a team, with a positive attitude.
Confident and clear communication skills, both verbal and written, with manufacturers, retailers and within the office environment.
Someone who is well organised and flexible, with a logical and analytical mind, and excellent administration skills
Someone who works well under pressure, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
Full driving licence is essential.
Knowledge of 3D software, ie Optitex/ Browzwear/ CLO, would be advantageous.
2 - 5 years experience in a related area
Knowledge of Excel would be advantageous

Ensure all relevant testing is complete in accordance with guidelines.
Hold weekly meetings with the technical team where any issues should be highlighted.
Ensure that workloads remain balanced throughout the team.
Identify opportunities for improving the method of operation in your area of responsibility and implement improvements which have been agreed with your manager.

The successful applicant will be working as part of a close-knit team, working with some of the country’s largest and most influential retailers and directional streetwear customers on varied product areas. Office based role in a Manchester city centre office.
The Role:
To take the lead on creatives for several brands / brand partnerships
Work between Director and the brand partners
Create direction for upcoming seasonal drops
Design multi product collections
Work with tech team to allocate size specs / create fits as needed
Brief collections out to suppliers and follow up sample development with Account Manager
Review samples on receipt and issue comments to suppliers
Attend trade shows / research trips
Visit suppliers as needed and within comfort level of applicant
Visit customers as needed to hold development meetings and sample reviews
