We have an amazing opportunity for a Garment Technologist to join a highly successful fashion supplier based in central Manchester. This role is perfect for candidates who are passionate about garment technology and are looking to make their mark in the industry.

The Garment Technologist will be working on knitwear across Ladieswear and Menswear.

Our client has a professional and experienced team and are renowned for delivering innovative and reliable knitwear solutions for some of the UK’s biggest retail brands, from high street retailers and department stores to online fashion brands. Producing in China, Bangladesh, Turkey and the UK, they have the variety, flexibility and capability to manufacture knitwear and align with changes in retail strategy.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend fit sessions, make fit comments and take notes
  • Assist in measuring and grading garments
  • Create tech packs
  • Monitor the critical path
  • Work closely with factories to ensure correct interpretations of design specifications.
  • Develop and maintain technical documents
  • Identify garment construction issues and work towards viable solutions
  • Ensure that products meet compliance and quality standards before production

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience as a Garment Technologist, specifically within knitwear.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, and quality processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • A keen eye for detail and a strong sense of quality.

Create concept boards and ranges for each phase Have a strong understanding of garment construction, fabric properties, and manufacturing processes. Work closely with the production team and factories to ensure the feasibility, quality of designs and cost effectiveness during the production process. Work closely with suppliers to understand and source appropriate material and trims, considering capabilities and limitations. Consider sustainability and ethical practices when selecting materials. Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and designs are delivered on time. Collaborate with production team to refine designs and resolve technical issues. Regular store visits/shop reports Stay informed about industry regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements. Assist the Designer Manager in providing guidance and mentorship to assistant designers and junior designers, assisting them in their professional development. Lead brainstorming sessions and design critiques to foster a collaborative and creative work environment. Regularly attend customer meetings to maintain strong relationships Develop a high standard of design to showcase newness for each season, fabric, shape, graphics and trend. Administration: Coordinate with the Design Manager and Account Manager to ensure price needs are met at the design stage. Liaise with Licensors on new films/anniversaries Support the design team to ensure all key dates are achieved. The company designs and develops Ladieswear for a broad range of customers, seeking the correct look and fit of all ages to ensure that the product fits beautifully, and performs well. Job Description: • To prepare reporting and present in weekly and monthly trading meetings. • Drive the trade model • Reviews daily and weekly sales performance actions where required. • Reviews over and under performance at product level and drives trading actions to maximise potential and minimise risk. • Seeds and manages a WSSI by accurately forecasting demand, OTB, returns and margin. • Takes ownership of the critical path and takes appropriate action on issues when they arise. • As well as being competent in preparing trading reports/packs will also make recommendations for reporting improvements across the B&M function and implement. • Fully aware of the principles and contribution to the overall business strategy. The successful candidate will provide administration support to the team and the Buyer to help ensure the smooth running of this growing department. You will be responsible for: Managing the samples Opening parcels and ensuring samples or given to the appropriate person Prepare samples for meetings. Organise for samples to be sent to the suppliers. Support in the selection of ranges Attend fit sessions with the Buyer and GTs General administrative duties for the buying team, such as take minutes in meetings. Ensure all detailed product information is accurate and loaded on time. Follow the critical path. Work with the other in-house teams including merchandising, marketing and e-commerce.
