About the Role
Nightwear Designer
Manchester
Due to continued growth, we have a vacancy for an experienced and enthusiastic designer to create trend driven and core ranges across Mens, Ladies and Childrens Nightwear ranges. My client is a small friendly team based in central Manchester with close links to public transport. They are a global producer of homeware, sleepwear and textiles. Working collaboratively with UK retail buyers, overseas managers and senior designer in house.
Duties include:
- Ensure high service levels are provided and newness in design is given.
- Proficient in Adobe Software, including Illustrator and Photoshop (minimum 2-3 years’ experience).
- See concept designs through to production, working closely with buyers and factories to ensure the brief is met.
- Work closely with technologists and merchandisers to ensure products fit and find solutions to any problems in production.
- Researching trends and creating mood boards for new projects and seasons ahead.
- Attending customer meetings and prepare for presentations.
- Design to a brief and amend as buyer requests, display experience of liaising with buyers requests and demands.
- Creating exclusive designs with awareness of cost and factory restrictions.
- Prepare design packs including technical drawing and size specs.
- Thorough understanding of the current market and research of retailers to ensure handwriting is in line.
- Manage day to day work load, working closely with buyers and factories to ensure deadlines are met for samples and designs.
- Develop new products with the factories from research, requesting new fabrics and embellishments.

We are looking for a Junior Buyer to take ownership of Accessories, Nightwear and Swimwear categories. This is a hands-on buying role with responsibility for both product selection and product development, working closely with Design, Merchandising, QC, Marketing and E-Commerce teams to deliver exciting, commercial ranges that resonate with the customer.
You will be responsible for managing your own product areas end-to-end, building strong supplier relationships, translating trends into commercial product, and driving sales and profit through well-planned, well-executed ranges.
Key Responsibilities
Take ownership of sourcing, developing and selecting product ranges across your categories
Build, maintain and develop strong, effective supplier relationships
Lead product development from concept through to delivery, managing the critical path and key deadlines
Create and implement range plans and category strategies in line with brand direction and customer needs
Monitor stock performance against KPIs and manage OTB accordingly
Analyse trade, sales and margin performance, identifying risks and opportunities
Contribute to planning, trade and sales meetings with clear, data-driven insight
Communicate key information clearly to senior stakeholders, including Buyers, Head of Buying and Directors
Identify growth opportunities within your categories through trend analysis and competitor benchmarking
Translate relevant trends into commercially viable product appropriate for the brand
Liaise closely with Merchandising, QC, Creative, Marketing and E-Commerce teams to maximise product performance
Support marketing and e-commerce activity to drive online sales
Carry out regular competitor analysis and market research
Attend buying trips and relevant trade fairs in the UK and internationally as required
Develop a growing understanding of trading across all departments
About You
Experience
Experience at Senior Assistant Buyer or Junior Buyer level within a fashion buying team
Background in women’s clothing and/or accessories buying
Experience of being responsible for your own product areas is desirable
Strong understanding of critical path management
Confident analysing sales, margin and stock data
Experience working cross-functionally with QC, Merchandising, Creative and Marketing
Proven ability to build and maintain effective supplier relationships
Negotiation experience
Good market and competitor knowledge
Desirable:
Experience with a variety of supplier bases (direct, landed, global sourcing)
Experience of range building and departmental strategy
Attendance at relevant trade fairs

You will make effective and commercially focused buying decisions to buy product across ladieswear under the management and supervision of your Senior Buyer. As a Junior Buyer you should be highly motivated, with technical flair, excellent communication skills and a can-do attitude. Ideally with 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
Responsibilities:
Completes all processes with reference to daily/weekly sales, as well as longer term plans.
Reporting and effectively communicate all key information in trading meeting to Buyer and Directors.
Generate ideas and suggestion to impact the business with reference to promotions and mark downs.
Provides SWOT analysis on designated categories.
Monitors and maintains stocks as per KPI’s set and manages open to buy accordingly.
Responds to competitor analysis.
Support your Senior Buyer to develop new strategies for the business and department.
Complete buying trips as and when needed.
