Garment Technologist

Our client is an online, trend-led brand and has an exciting and fast-paced role for an experienced Garment Technologist to work alongside their buying team to improve fit and work with suppliers. They are based in Manchester and ship to countries around the globe.

 

The role:

  • Conduct fit sessions for own product areas in house and at source, balancing speed and quality, making commercial decisions with confidence, owning the fitting process and inspiring trust and confidence from colleague and suppliers.
  • Sending clear concise and accurate comments to suppliers, processing samples in a timely and agile manner in line with KPIs.
  • Liaising with design, buying and suppliers to offer technical guidance on new product development with the aim of reducing cost and improving quality.
  • Ensuring compliance with product safety and reach legislation, assessing risk, advising on relevant testing, recording and resolving non-compliance effectively and efficiently.
  • Contributing to initiatives to reduce customers returns.
  • Always promoting quality whilst maintaining a strong commercial attitude.
  • Helping design and buying team on developments.
  • Overseeing GT department on manager absence, giving support to junior members.

 

About you:

  • Previous experience within a similar role in a fast-paced environment is essential.
  • A technically oriented qualification, preferably degree level is essential.
  • Confident and assertive individual with ability to manage their own fit sessions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of fitting and fit issues is essential.
  • Experience of working directly with factories and a thorough understanding of factory production, including workflow and production control.
  • First class communication skills.
  • An interest in travel desirable.
  • Able to meet new challenges with a positive attitude.
  • Strong time management skills, able to prioritise tasks and change direction with agility.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office including Excel.
  • Keen to expand skill set as the role demands.

Key Responsibilities: • Take full responsibility for fit, technical standards, and quality expectations for assigned product categories, from first fit through to production. • Lead and participate in weekly fit sessions alongside the Buying team, offering technical advice and recommending fit improvements. • Measure, evaluate, and prepare fit samples; finalise specifications including grading using electronic tools. • Clearly instruct suppliers on garment fit, construction, and quality expectations.
